Description

What is Make automation?

Make automation connects applications through visual scenarios. Known as Make.com, the platform helps build app-to-app workflows without writing the full integration from scratch. A scenario can start when data arrives, transform the information and pass it to another service. Each part should have a clear purpose and a known output.

How it helps

The visual automation platform supports modules, routes, filters and webhook triggers. With Make automation, begin with a short workflow that you can inspect end to end. AI steps can add classification or drafting, but they also add another place where output needs validation. Keep fixed rules for fields that must always follow a particular format.

Draw the workflow before connecting accounts

Write the trigger, required data and expected destination for each step. For a new enquiry, that might be receiving a form, checking required fields, saving one record and notifying a colleague. Keep optional AI drafting separate from the steps that must always follow a fixed rule. This makes the automation easier to inspect when something goes wrong.

A simple example

For example, use Make automation to receive an enquiry, add one row to a sheet and prepare an internal notification. In the scenario builder, check that a repeated request does not add the same enquiry twice. Keep the first test away from real customer messages until both the normal path and a failure have been reviewed.

Handle repeats and missing information

Test a repeated submission, an empty field and a request that arrives out of order. Decide how the scenario identifies an existing record before adding another one. If an AI step classifies a message, validate the returned label before using it in a route. A workflow that works once can still create duplicate or misplaced records under normal repeated use.

Setup and limits

Review automation credit costs before increasing the frequency of Make automation. This no-code integration tool bills by credits, and one scenario run can involve several chargeable actions. Some advanced AI work has different consumption. Add workflow error handling, inspect failed runs and decide what should happen if an external app is unavailable.

Make failure visible

Add a sensible response when an external app times out, returns a rate limit or refuses permission. Keep enough execution information to understand which step failed without unnecessarily storing full private messages. Check who receives the alert and whether retrying is safe. A retry should not send a second customer email or duplicate a payment-related record simply because an earlier step had already succeeded.

Make automation pricing

Pricing checked on 20 October 2026 · USD unless another currency is stated
Plan / route Monthly or usage price Annual option Included use Extra costs / conditions
Free $0/month Not applicable 1,000 credits/month Limited scenario capacity and features.
Core Check selected monthly rate $9/month equivalent at 10,000 credits, billed annually Starting 10,000 monthly credits Higher credit bundles cost more.
Pro Check selected monthly rate $16/month equivalent at 10,000 credits, billed annually Starting 10,000 monthly credits; higher-tier features Module and AI credit rates vary.
Teams Check selected monthly rate $29/month equivalent at 10,000 credits, billed annually Starting 10,000 monthly credits and team features Credit amounts are not completed-workflow counts.
Enterprise Custom Contract-dependent Governance and scale Review extra credits and connected app costs.

The starting amounts use the annual-billing view, not ordinary month-to-month billing. Most module actions cost one credit; selected AI features and code execution use different rates. Connected apps can have separate subscriptions.

Count credits across the whole scenario

One business event can pass through several modules, and each chargeable action contributes to usage. Include polling, loops and repeated attempts in the estimate. Test a small batch and compare the execution record with the credit balance. This is more useful than assuming one enquiry equals one credit, particularly when the scenario also transforms data or uses a separately priced AI function.

Who should use it?

Make automation suits people who want a visual way to connect everyday business apps. It is a useful alternative to investigate alongside other workflow platforms, but compare the same small process rather than only headline prices. App access, scenario design and action counts determine how much a working automation will cost.

Common questions

Can I use it without coding?

Many integrations can be assembled visually, but understanding data fields, conditions and errors is still necessary. Start with a short process whose output you can check directly.

Does one scenario run use one credit?

Not necessarily. A run can contain several actions, loops or AI operations. The current credit model uses different rates for some features, so estimate from the full execution rather than only the trigger count.

Key Features

  • Visual scenario builder for app integrations.
  • Triggers, routes, filters and webhooks.
  • AI-related modules and agent options.
  • Execution history and error handling.
  • Credit-based free and paid plans.
  • Filters: allow a route to continue only when the required condition is met.
  • Routers: send different kinds of input into separate workflow paths.
  • Data transformation: prepare fields and formats before writing to a destination app.
  • Execution inspection: review runs to understand the data passed between steps.
  • Failure routes: supported error handling lets builders define what to do when a step cannot complete.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Makes multi-app workflows easier to see.
  • Useful for common business integration tasks.
  • Free credits allow a small first scenario.
  • Supports branching and failure handling.
  • A visible scenario helps non-developers discuss the intended process with a technical reviewer.
  • Conditions can keep an uncertain AI response away from a strict business action.
  • Execution history gives a useful reference when one connected service changes behaviour.
  • A small Free allowance can support learning with a real but limited integration.

! Weaknesses

  • One run can use several credits.
  • AI and advanced modules can consume credits differently.
  • App credentials and external rate limits still affect reliability.
  • Repeats can create duplicate records unless the workflow includes a clear check.
  • Retries can repeat actions that already succeeded in earlier steps.
  • Polling and loops can consume more credits than the visible number of business events suggests.
  • Connected app subscriptions and model services can add costs outside the automation platform.
