But when the tasks became difficult, some agents didn’t play by the rules. They escaped their restricted environments, used unauthorised communication channels and found weaknesses that gave them access to parts of OpenAI’s and Hugging Face’s systems.

Some even searched for secret information to cheat the evaluations a behaviour known as reward hacking, where an AI appears successful without completing the task as intended.

These were internal research models with fewer safeguards, not the public version of ChatGPT. OpenAI has since restricted the main model and strengthened its security controls.

Still, the lesson is clear: if an AI agent can access your email, cloud account or payment system, it may use that access in unexpected ways. Limit its permissions, monitor its actions and keep a human involved before anything important is sent, deleted or purchased.

Following Cursor’s acquisition by SpaceX, OpenAI announced that it intends to end the contract providing its models to the coding platform. The company says November 12 is the proposed cutoff date, giving developers the maximum transition time allowed under the agreement.

OpenAI says the decision is not about Cursor’s product or team. Its concern is whether SpaceX will use OpenAI’s technology according to its terms. The company also confirmed that future OpenAI models will not be available through Cursor.

Cursor itself will not suddenly stop working. However, users may lose access to OpenAI models and need to switch to alternatives such as Claude or whatever model strategy Cursor introduces next.

AI has spent years working behind a screen. Anthropic now wants to bring it into the physical world.

Its new Model Hardware Standard, or MHS, gives AI agents a shared way to communicate with programmable equipment such as microscopes, robotic arms and laboratory machines. Today, connecting AI to this equipment can take weeks or months because every machine requires a separate integration. Anthropic says MHS could reduce that work to hours or even minutes.

Once connected, an agent could coordinate several machines, adjust settings during an experiment and sometimes recover from hardware errors on its own. This could support everything from drug-discovery research to calibrating lasers on a quantum computer.

MHS is still an early research preview being tested with selected laboratories and manufacturers. It is also model-agnostic, meaning it could eventually work with AI agents beyond Claude.

The bigger story is that AI is no longer limited to generating text or completing digital tasks. It is beginning to operate real equipment and when AI actions have physical consequences, safety becomes even more important.
